My Time in Haiti – Part 2
As previously mentioned, my job role significantly shifted when a tiny baby arrived that needed one-on-one attention. Mama Bonnie insisted that every infant live with a primary caregiver for one year prior to transitioning into a group bedroom. I volunteered and suddently became a temporary “haitian mama” over night. She was perfect in every way. With lots of siblings back home, this role felt very natural and special. I continued to make lasting connections with both the new baby and the teen girls. I also jumped into helping host short-term teams from both churches and medical missions.
It was such a joy to witness so many churches coming together to complete projects around CHM. I got to see schools built and restored, churches painted, vacation bible schools executed, children led to Christ, medical needs met, and so many countless miracles. The people of Haiti truly showed me how to rely on God for all of your needs. When faced with impossible circumstances, only He will provide the ultimate hope and joy.
The impact of a short-term trip can change every thing in your heart and for a little villiage. My time in Haiti directly impacted my decisions for my future As a result of my time, I transferred to University of North Florida and decided to persue Social Work. I enjoy using the resources around me to assist others in their daily life. I wrote back on my IG in 2014, “I thank God everyday for choosing someone as ordinary as me to play a small part in His extraordinary plan.”
I firmly believe God will place various callings on all of our lives. We should always be ready with our “yes” on the table and He will make a way. Check out some practicial ways you can still serve CHM. While trips are on hold, there are lots of practical opportunities to help listed on our website and Facebook pages.
