Transition Program Update
As I grow older, I find myself watching many children grow into adults—my own children are now parents! Recently, I saw a man from my church who I remember as a child celebrating becoming a grandfather.
When Bonnie and I moved to Haiti in 2010, the kids at the Children’s Home were very young. Many of them have grown up, and new little ones have arrived. It felt like the first group of children would always be with us, but now that several have turned 18, we realized we needed a plan for their transition into adulthood.
The first group of eight young adults found it difficult to accept that their time at the Children’s Home was ending. We reassured them that we would continue to support them as they stepped into this new phase of life.
Our support includes providing a monthly stipend for two years, covering their school expenses, and assisting with any medical needs or emergencies. Our social worker helps find suitable living arrangements for them, whether with family, church members, or even staff from the Children’s Home. Additionally, we set aside some money for them each month, which they will receive at the end of the two years.
However, the current political situation in Haiti has made things challenging. The difficulties in traveling have made it almost impossible for these young adults to attend universities or trade schools. We recently graduated another group in March, and while we strive to raise them to be independent, letting them go remains difficult.
We ask for your prayers for these young adults as they navigate their futures in such a challenging environment. The Haitian government is facing serious instability, and the uncertainty can be overwhelming. Yet, we trust in our Heavenly Father to guide us through these times.
