About six years ago, Mike Snider approached my dear friend John Turner and I at church with the idea of a golf tournament to raise funds for Cabaret Haiti Mission (CHM).  Although our families’ hearts are for CHM (we have visited multiple times and support several children), the human side of me said I am just too busy for one more thing.  So, before I could even filter my words, I said out loud, ‘Mike, I am not a golfer, and I have never even put on a golf tournament.’  Mike, in his gentle way, asked me to pray about it, and we went on our way.

As I left church that day and into the week, Jesus began to soften my heart towards the idea.  I thought about all the golf tournaments I had attended in our local engineering community, the people God has put in my life who have experience with this sort of event, and the amazing team at Prosser who could be a resource.  Jesus was gently reminding me of all the ways he had prepared me for this moment to say YES.

Since then, CHM has held four golf tournaments.  Many of the participants and sponsors have been from the engineering and construction community in Jacksonville, and we are so grateful for their support.  Almost 500 golfers have heard the beautiful and horrifying stories of CHM, which they would have never been exposed to otherwise, resulting in many sponsorships for our kids and over $ 100,000 for CHM.  I have been told by so many that this is their favorite event of the year.  They cannot quite vocalize what makes it so special, but I am confident that this is not just a feel-good moment; these folks are getting a taste of the peace and joy from our sweet Lord.

With the event framework developed by Kenzie Allen of CHM and Savannah Connelly of Prosser, this event would be easy to scale to as many golfers as the faith family could invite.  In fact, the venue could also support a pickleball tournament that could be held simultaneously with the golf tournament.  The only thing holding us back is your YES. 

I implore you, brothers and sisters, to get the word out.  Invite your church family, your friends, and your neighbors.  Jesus has prepared you, as he had me, for this very moment.  Every single dollar raised goes to support CHM and makes a huge difference in those kids’ lives.

Start your holiday weekend with a one-of-a-kind golf experience! Our 15-hole, four-man scramble tees off with a delicious Chick-fil-A breakfast before a 9:30 AM shotgun start at The Yards. As you make your way through the course, expect more than just great golf—our event is packed with fun surprises, including the infamous “Lucky Duck Putt” and the thrilling Golf Cannon Hole, where this year’s sharpest shot could win a special Hole-in-One prize!

Throughout the day, you’ll have the chance to connect with Cabaret Haiti Mission leadership, hear powerful stories, and learn how your support directly impacts children and families in Haiti.

Why Your Sponsorship Matters More Than Ever

This past year has been one of the most challenging in our history. Ongoing violence and gang activity have repeatedly forced evacuations from our village. Our mountain school became both a refugee camp and temporary home for the orphanage children after gangs overtook our village’s school, church, and orphanage—tragically claiming many lives. By October, even the mountain location was no longer safe. As the village burned below, we relocated the children deeper into the mountains, only to realize they would need to leave the region entirely.

With help from a partner organization and the Haitian government, all 39 children and several staff were only recently safely evacuated by helicopter to a more secure city and a welcoming orphanage. Recently, we were able to relocate once more to a safer location close to home.

The funds raised from this tournament are going directly to CHM to support the children and staff in their care during this tumultuous time. Here is a snapshot of what that looks like:

• 500+ children receiving daily meals and Christian education during the school year
• 34 orphaned children living under CHM’s full-time care
• 100+ Haitian employees supported by meaningful work
• Fuel for power, water, and transportation for daily operations
• And so much more.
